Update on the Quality of Care Information Protection Act (QCIPA)

April 02, 2015

On March 4, 2015, the Government of Ontario announced the release of the QCIPA Review Committee Recommendations. The review was initiated by Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, the Honorable Eric Hoskins, and a committee was convened to review current practice of the interpretation and implementation of the Quality of Care Information Protection Act (QCIPA).

The Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) will be hosting a complimentary webcast for its members on April 14, 2015 to share key findings and insights gleaned from the review process.

The webcast will feature co-chairs of the QCIPA Review Committee, Dr. Andreas Laupacis, Executive Director of the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute at St. Michael’s Hospital and Chair of the Board of Directors of Health Quality Ontario, and Angela Morin, member of the Patient and Family Experience Advisory Council at Kingston General Hospital.

The outcome of consultations with the public, patients and families about the use of the QCIPA for the investigation of critical incidents in hospitals will also be addressed. The webcast will also highlight the key findings from the Committee’s investigation and will outline the recommendations made to the Ministry.
