Last week, William Osler Health System (Osler) welcomed dignitaries – including Premier Kathleen Wynne, Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care and Minister of Finance, Charles Sousa – along with local MPPs, donors and community partners to celebrate the grand opening of the new Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness.
The dignitaries, hospital and community leaders participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the historic milestone. Following that, a time capsule was buried near the front entrance of the hospital. The capsule contains various items including hospital equipment, photographs, articles, and documents that reflect health care practices and achievements of Osler today. It also contains writing and drawings of schoolchildren from two Brampton elementary schools, sharing their thoughts about their own health care practices, and what hospitals will look like in the future.
Located in the heart of downtown Brampton, the new, state-of-the-art outpatient hospital focuses on treatment of patients who do not require an overnight stay in hospital and offers an urgent care centre staffed by emergency-trained physicians and staff and equipped with high-tech diagnostic and lab services and an extensive list of specialty and day clinics. As well, the facility offers health services and programs focused on the unique needs of seniors, children, people requiring mental health services, and individuals living with chronic conditions such as diabetes or asthma.
Osler's two other hospital sites – Brampton Civic and Etobicoke General - will work seamlessly with the new Peel Memorial closely so that patients can easily move between the three facilities, depending on their needs.
