At Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, physician wellness is important. Given our size and distributed geography, there are a number of initiatives within departments as well as newer initiatives to reach the entire medical staff. For example, on February 14, 2018, two of our doctor's organized the "Be Well" day – a wellness cart that toured the hospital wards and clinics, delivering messages of support and highlighting the importance of conversations about wellbeing.
In addition, we recognize that physician engagement and peer support within the hospital requires a physical space where we can get together so we have piloted a mobile "Pop Up Lounge" to facilitate informal meeting spaces where we can meet old and new colleagues. Our next "Pop Up" event will include a local physician speaker sharing his experiences about important work in places of conflict and war. We are looking forward to this inaugural event as we launch what we hope will be a series of Sunnybrook Wellness Speakers events and Pop-up Lounges.
These initiatives would not be possible without the recognition of their importance and the support provided by our CEO and senior leadership team. Physician wellness needs to be a shared initiative and responsibility between doctors and healthcare organizations so that we can address the contributing challenges in the system. As physicians, we look forward to expanding this relationship and continuing to develop these important initiatives.
